A new chapter in Kernicterus research

Kernicterus
Changed Their Lives.
Science Can Change
Their Future.

A different future starts with a scientific mission. We’re forming cureKI to advance treatments—and pursue a cure—for people living with Kernicterus.

Built on science. Driven by people. Looking forward.

01 / Our purpose

Prevention changed the story.
Now let’s work toward what comes next.

Timely treatment of newborn jaundice can prevent bilirubin brain injury. But for people already living with Kernicterus, the need for meaningful treatments remains.

cureKI’s focus is that unmet need. Our intended approach brings direct research and development together with collaboration and future research funding.

03 / The path to a cure

Hope is the beginning.
Evidence is the way forward.

A cure is our ultimate goal. Better function and quality of life are meaningful goals along the way.

Explore the path ahead →
  1. 01

    Understand the injury

Clarify the biology and the questions that matter most.

  2. 02

    Explore therapeutic possibilities

Evaluate ideas with careful, reproducible research.

  3. 03

    Build evidence for people

Advance only when safety and evidence support the next step.

04 / People at the center

A scientific mission.
A deeply human reason.

People living with Kernicterus deserve to be part of the conversation about their future. Lived experience should help shape what progress means.

A clearer understanding

Big questions.
Honest answers.

Is there a cure for Kernicterus today?

There is currently no proven cure for established Kernicterus. Supportive care can address symptoms and support daily life. cureKI’s ambition is to help advance research toward future treatments.

Can phototherapy reverse established injury?

No. Phototherapy lowers bilirubin in newborns and can help prevent injury when used appropriately and promptly. It does not reverse established Kernicterus.

How does cureKI differ from PIC-K?

cureKI is forming around treatment-focused research. PIC-K is a separate resource for prevention, awareness, and family support. Visit PIC-K →

Can I donate or apply for research funding?

Not yet. Donation processing and research grant programs are not established. Visit our Support page to see how you can prepare to help.
